Alazani Valley, Kakheti, Georgia
Kakheti is the cradle of winemaking region of Georgia. In Kakheti 80 % of wineries are located and famous with viticulture and appellations of endemic grape varieties.
Kakheti is the region where the Qvevri, an ancient winemaking vessel where aromatic, flavorful Georgian wine is born. Kakheti is the Alazani Valley and steep mountain passes, evergreen forests and arid steppes, densely populated villages and small, historical cities.
Alazani Valley is a sub region within Kakheti in the Georgia Republic. Kakheti is the most important wine region in Georgia, producing three-quarters of the country's wine grapes. It is also known as the cradle of wine production in the world, with archaeological studies finding vine residue dating back 8000 years.
In the territory of Alazani valley locates a river Alazani, that flows through the Caucasus. It is the main tributary of the Kura in eastern Georgia, and flows for 351 kilometers. The length of valley estimates 160 km and locates 200-400 m above sea level.

Telavi is located in the heart of Kakheti, the historical area of eastern Georgia, in the valleys of the rivers Iori and Alazani. Georgia has an 8000-year-long tradition of winemaking, making it the oldest wine region in the world. 8000 years ago, Georgians already used a unique winemaking vessel - Qvevri, which is still used in Georgia today and is inscribed in UNESCO's world heritage list. The qvevri is Georgia’s most important and best-known winemaking vessel, and it remains the centerpiece of traditional winemaking in Georgia.
